These are photos from a long weekend drive to Arizona, via LA outbound and I-40 return. The purpose of this trip was... well, there wasn't one, really, I just wanted to point my car in any random direction that didn't run me into the ocean and go.

The Mogollon Rim north of Payson, AZ, has what I think are the best mountain views, topography, and climate. (Well, Colorado's mountains are more dramatic, but they take a lot more work to scale and it's much colder there.) The top of the rim provides great vistas to the south as you look over the cliffs.

Higher desert (about 4500 feet) near Myers, AZ.

Campsite near Flagstaff, AZ. The mountains aren't very steep here but there's lots of pine trees.

The London Bridge is now at Lake Havasu City, AZ. Imagine: the old regal Bridge, from European days of yore, coexisting with party boats on the, er, Riviera of the Colorado River...

Storm clouds in the distance from Needles, CA. I was hoping for more dramatic desert monsoon weather, but not this time...
